A friend told me last year that she watched One Day and also read the book and that it was really good. I finally got around to watching the movie. My idea of a good movie are one of these:
- Comedy - makes you laugh, worth every minute
- Chick flick with comedy - makes you laugh!
- Horror - scares the crap out of you. Totally worth it.
- Action movie - for the adrenaline rush
Romantic comedies are okay, but romance movies are a no-no. Since I hate spoilers, I did not read anything about this movie. My friend told me that the story is about two people on one day every year of their lives. I thought it was going to be a light movie, but no!!! I hated what happened in the movie towards the end. She rides her bicycle and gets knock down by a truck. I was eating and my jaw just dropped. Everything was going so well in the movie, right until then. They've been good friends and they kept in touch for years, then bad things happened to him and Dex and Emma get together. They went from being friends to husband and wife. That's a really good movie. Then the truck hits her. The first thing which came to my mind was this, "Friend said it's a nice movie. The truck just hit her. I think she will be fine. If she's not, it wouldn't be a nice movie." But no! A year later, you see Dex fighting in a pub and his father referring to Emma in the past tense. He eventually understands that he needs to continue living. Maybe that's why the story is nice?
I must say I hated the movie because of Emma's death. I hate movies which make me sad. But if anyone is into such movies, it is a MUST WATCH. It is a story of friendship, love and loss. I love how the whole movie showed their lives over about 20 years for only 1 day each year. 15th July every year.
Whatever happens tomorrow, we've had today.
