Unhealthy competitiveness
I thought it's something all of us would have grown out of. In school, we were competitive to obtain the highest grades possible and in doing so, I have personally experienced classmates who were selfish with information, as if answering a question of mine would mean that they would fall in rank from where they were to the very last position in class, which, to be honest, was not very far.
As we grow up, we should have observed and noted how things work. We should know our rights from wrongs. We should realise that unhealthy competitiveness does no one any good.
At work today, I asked a colleague who has been sitting for the profession's papers for a few years now, if he will do general insurance for his specialist papers. He paused, pretended to think and shook his head saying he doesn't know. How can you not know if you've been working on it for the past few years?
Lie! Why do people lie? What will he lose if he shares the information with me? Is he afraid I will change my plan and do what he wants to do and beat him at it? At least by asking him today, I know that I will never, ever share any information with him and I will always keep a distance with him. Selfish people can live in their own selfish world. There is no space for people like him in my unselfish world.
Let us all promote healthy competitiveness today for the better of tomorrow.
