Gym etiquette #1

I was at the gym today doing my sets. One of the sets was 25kg with 15 repetitions (3 sets) on the Adductor which was right next to the Abductor. Both these machines in Virgin Active have a counter to show how many repetitions one has done. There is no need at all to count while you are pushing.

Here comes the interesting part. The Adductor was unoccupied by any human, but on the seat laid a towel, working itself out. On the Abductor next to it was a lady working out. I politely asked her if the towel was hers and she gave used some hand gestures and pretended to be so into her counting and made me wait there until she finished her repetitions before telling me she was alternating between the Adductor and Abductor. And then she gets onto the Adductor and spends a few seconds taking a breather. In all that time, I could have completed my exercise on the Adductor.

Honestly, I am not sure if this is a problem with rude Australians (which I have encountered SO MANY times!) or some people just lack common sense.

  1. Instead of stopping her exercise and taking the towel off the Adductor, she makes a hand gesture and makes me wait for her.
  2. She actually claimed the Adductor by putting a towel on it. Excuse me Miss, but we are all paying the same amount for the gym membership. You don't see me throwing towels over the 7 machines I need to us just so that I don't have to wait when I am done with each exercise.

Gym etiquette #1 : DO NOT claim a piece of machine or equipment by putting your towel/ belonging on it.

Fitter today,
Halley
