Clear desk policy

For months now (well, until last week that is), my desk at work has been quite a mess. For one, the person before me never cleared the desk before he left. I didn't know if what he left was important or not, so I left it there. Secondly, during the busy period at year end, I kept stacking things on my desk. On the left, things to work on. On the right, things which should be binned, but before I could do so, I needed to check them one more time and I couldn't find the time until about last month. Even after that, my desk still looked quite messy. Well, I am a hard worker, what more can I say. (LOL!)

Anyway, an email circulated last week on Clear Desk Policy. We were told that if our desks remained messy, our bonuses will be affected. Lo and behold! That did the trick! My desk which was messy for about a third of a year was tidied in about 30 minutes!

Threaten to take away my money and you will get what you want!!!

I now have the urge to wet wipe my desk just before leaving each day. I try so very hard to stop myself. I can't hoard all the bonus for myself. 



However, I do wish that my company will give out cash rewards for clear desks. (Note: not clean, but clear. I will explain this another time.) Hard work throughout the day and that additional effort to clear the desk at the end of the day definitely need to be rewarded. Just saying.
