The Boyfriend Checklist

I just watched Beauty and the Briefcase starring Hilary Duff. In this movie she has a checklist of what she wants her boyfriend to be like. When I was about 17, during the whole Meteor Garden craze, I, too, came up with what I'd like to call a Boyfriend Checklist and this is what it was like:

  1. Tall. I am tall (tall for an Asian, but thank God, I am not that tall in Europe. In UK, I was actually shorter than my flatmates. I lived several glorious months being the shorter one.) and have always been tall, so I wanted my boyfriend to be at least a 6 footer.
  2. Good looking. He HAS to be a head turner and an eye catcher.
  3. Rich. Man must be rich. I am materialistic that way. Serious. I just can't imagine dating someone who is broke. It's just not anyone's idea of a fairy tale, which is why all fairy tales only involve princes.
  4. Must be able to drive. There is something about me and cars since I was little. I love them. I LOVE cars. I am not into details of cars, but I love looking at cars. I just wish I could drive all the cars I want to drive.
  5. Must be built. Don't we all love Mc Hotties?
  6. Must love me. Of course, duh.
So, at 17, coming up with my list based on the only guys I know - the ones from dramas and television show, only one guy fitted my criteria. I never had any guy friends being schooled in an all girls school.

Dao Ming Si.
Yes, a fictional character was my Prince Charming.

Then I liked a guy. It was completely one sided but totally serious on my part. A friend asked me, "So, how does he fit into your list of what you want in a boyfriend?" It hit me then. I might make any list I want, but my heart will never go that way. The guy I liked wasn't a six footer, wasn't a head turner, wasn't that rich (not like Dao Ming Si at least), couldn't drive, was stick thin and liked my flatmate! So, what was it that I really liked in him? It really wasn't anything physical, but an attraction on a much deeper level. It was something that could last forever. He was sweet, a good listener, always there for me, and I can go on with the list, but I'll just stop here.

More time passed and I started dating. A blond guy this time with a very fair complexion. And then I noticed that I am more attracted to people with dark hair. I am not saying I am cheating on him, but you know how men have wandering eyes? Well, we girls do that too. I actually like guys with dark hair, dark, thick eyebrows and sharp features. The next person I date has got to have dark hair!

Like him!
Yeah baby~
I love his eyebrows and jawline.

Anyway, in case anyone is wondering, no, I don't look like a super model, but a girl can always dream. Besides, if you don't set goals for yourself, you will achieve nothing in life. Make your goals realistic and always perform self reflection and improve yourself... and your Boyfriend Checklist too!

Have a good weekend y'all!!!
