I've already made it clear that the train in Malaysia is NEVER punctual. Despite the announcement you hear saying, "The train is expected to arrive in 10 minix", the train never arrives in 10 minutes. When the train actually arrives in every station, there will be so many people that the train starts carrying passengers beyond it's capacity. In times like this, when you don't have a seat, it is important to hold onto poles or those thing dangling from above your head so that you don't fall onto people round you at every bend and turn.
You spot a pole and you stretch out your hand to reach it. Not matter how much you try, you can never reach it. You look around to see if there is anything else you can hold onto for the whole 30 minutes of your ride, and no, there is nothing!!!
This happens when people hog a pole. It's called pole hogging! How little common sense do these people have? Instead of trying to make space for others to hold the pole, they decide they will not use their hands in that crowd, but will just lie against the pole, then use their hands for their gadgets. While on normal day, say, about 6 people can hold onto the pole, in the presence of a pole hogger, only 2 people can do so.
What's worse is when you are holding a pole and a sweaty lady comes and lies against the pole, pressing your hand between the pole and her sweaty body. Yuck! This happened to me once and I told this Malaysian lady that this person (a foreigner) is completely inconsiderate and at that time she turned and looked at me and I said, "Can you please stop leaning on my hand?", to which she replied, "I don't have eyes behind my headlah." If she knows she has no eyes behind her head, then shouldn't she be using the eyes on the front of her head to see where her fat body is? Common sense, people! It's so difficult to understand why so many people lack common sense. It's not even something you need to study for.
In case you are wondering what a minix is, it's just an uneducated Malaysian way of pronouncing minutes. I wonder what these people learnt in English class from Standard 1 till Form 5 that they don't even know how to pronounce minutes.
